Haven't posted in a long time, mostly crap coming off the drawing board. Decided to get away from realistic drawing for this little project, so I could actually start & finish something in one day. I also wanted to get back to what got me drawing in the first place; comics. Some of the most beautiful art I've ever laid eyes on is comic art.
I've always been a very weak inker, and decided it was time to do something about it. " Big " John Buscema is one of my favorite comic artists of all time, quite likely in my top 3. I always enjoy John's art the best when he inked himself, which he didn't do often.
I've always found I've gravitated to artists with his drawing and inking style ( like Joe Kubert & Al Williamson ). All 3 artists have such a solid grasp of fundamentals, and in my mind, are 3 of the best guys out there to get inspiration from. So, I decided what better way to bone up on my inking than to learn from a master. I used images from Wolverine 7 & 8 from 1988 to do these pics. I did NOT trace anything. I picked some images, I drew them, then did my level best to ape John's inking style, learning a lot in the process.( like taking my time, which is the most important thing I've learned with ink )
And for a change, I actually had a good time drawing. No swearing, no drama, no blood or tears. Dr. Ph. Martins ink and a #2 brush.
No Photoshop or any other computer enhanced BS. Pencil & ink on a page, nice & simple.
